The first time I used this mascara was about 8 years ago. At that time, make-up was just make-up for me, I just bought whatever looked good to me. So, this was just an ordinary mascara for me. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I got passionate about beauty, fashion and make-up, and by that time, Maybelline’s great lash mascara wasn’t available in Belgium anymore. I kind of forgot about this product until I stumbled upon it in an Aldi a few weeks ago. And of course, I just had to buy this little pink and green mascara.
It might just be the most famous mascara, but unfortunately, I’m not blown away by it. Its brush is a bit smaller than your usual mascara brush, and it is spiral formed. The mascara really is the blackest black, which is perfect for me, as I have got naturally black lashes.
After applying a first layer, my lashes look good, but the effect isn’t amazing. My lashes look longer, but I don’t feel like every lash is reached separately, and I miss volume and thickness. Instead of a deep, dark, voluminous look, it seems like I’ve got less lashes than before. This effect is magnified by putting on a second layer, leaving 5 thick and spidery lashes. The mascara is so wet that all my lashes clot together. I would not recommend sneezing while applying this mascara.
However, the little brush is perfect for my lower lashes. I can reach them individually so they don’t clot together. But you must be careful applying the mascara since it doesn’t dry that fast.
Once the mascara is dry, it is hard, and that’s not what look for in a mascara. I want my lashes to look and feel soft. Now it just looks spidery and artificial.
It is not a surprise that I’m not the biggest fan of Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara. There are much better mascara’s out there. I would not this product again.
